Thank-You Mother Nature

After a few nights and early mornings of cold weather, we can finally let out a sign of relief. In the early hours of May 25th, 26th, and 27th, temperatures dropped below zero, putting our tree fruit at risk for frost damage.

Luckily, with the installation of our frost machines two years ago, we saved the majority of our cherries, peaches, apricots, plums, and apples. The frost machines work by circulating warm air from ground fires around the orchard. Without the frost machines, Bert estimates that we would have lost over 50% of our apple crop while also dealing with more deformed fruit.

This is an early shot of the cherries. With the right weather, these will grow in size and brighten in colour in a few short weeks.
